今週は国家間対立や民族紛争に関連するニュースが5件です。
まずは最も平和な国家間トラブルから。デンマークとカナダが北極圏のハンス島の領有を巡って争ったウイスキー戦争は同島の分割でついに決着を見ました。ちなみにウイスキー戦争は戦争と名がついていますが武力紛争は一切無かった変わった戦争でした。

次に、昔の民族紛争の余波です。ボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナ紛争の最中オランダ部隊が平和維持活動を行っていたスレブレニツァで虐殺が起きた事件に関して、オランダ政府は当時のオランダ人兵士たちに業務遂行のための物資が不足していたことを認め、謝罪しました。スレブレニツァ虐殺とオランダの責任に関してはこみいった事情があります。
ロシアのラブロフ外相はウクライナ問題に関するBBCのいんたびゅーで、ロシアのスタンスを淡々と告げました。ロシアにはロシアの言い分があるのです。西側諸国が今までの歴史で横暴を極めて築き上げた現状になぜロシアが従わなければならないのかといった所でしょうか。
インドではイスラム教徒に対する迫害がエスカレートしています。
アフガニスタンではシク教徒に対して攻撃が行われました。シク教は馴染みが薄いですが、キリスト教、イスラム教、仏教、ヒンドゥー教に次いで信者の多い宗教とのことです。日本ではなかなか報道されない問題について情報収集ができることが英字記事の利点です。
Googleエンジニアが人工知能LaMDAに自我があると主張して話題になっています。ある人が自我を持つと主張するならその人にとっては自我をもつのだということで大丈夫でしょう。客観的な定義でもって自我を持つとはどのようなことなのかを定義したとしても、結局自我を持つというのはその定義を満たすということでしかないということになります。
アマゾンで失踪した2人組が殺されていて遺体が回収された事件は、まるでフィクションのような筋書きです。西洋文明とは異なるルールで支配される地域があることを如実に示します。
